We the Kids... {celebrating constitution day}

We learned about The Constitution today.

First, we watched a short movie clip from this book:

Then we had a great discussion about WHY it is important to have a promise to each other to ensure that everyone can be happy and safe here at school.

We wrote our class constitution.
Sounds good to me!

And made these beautiful portraits as a way to say we'd abide by our new constitution.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE hearing my students read our constitution...
Listen to it below:

Teaching American Symbols {FREEBIE!}

The students have loved becoming American Symbol experts this week!

We have read many great books, collected facts, shared our background knowledge, created symbol art and writing, made an American flag for our cooking activity this week, checked on the Bald Eagle cam,... and more!

Check out the Bald Eagle live nest came here:

We used this site to collect more information on bald eagles:

Here is the American flag we created while Cooking with Mrs. Raymore:

Some of our Symbol art:

On Friday we created a U.S. Symbol Quilt that is absolutely beautiful. The students REALLY LOVED creating this during social studies... and begged me to make extra copies at lunch so they could make more in the afternoon! :)

We worked in groups using collections of books and our anchor charts to create our own facts.

LOVE LOVE LOVE

I have created this simple freebie if you'd like to create a quilt with your class. You could also use it to create a class book.

Enjoy!!!
