I Spy Growing Readers and Writers

Looking around the room today during Daily 5 made my teacher heart seriously HAPPY!
Growing readers and writers engaged in meaningful literacy activities everywhere I looked.

So proud of the hard work we have put in...
and each and every one of my growing readers and writers!

Sometimes, it's the little things...

Book Lovers Club

To get my students excited about reading and books I created a Book Lovers Club

We meet at the beginning of Reader's Workshop and share books we are enjoying, fun reading websites, cool end pages, connections, and more!

I asked this year's students to join and...

THEY WENT BONKERS about the idea! :):):)
I love, love, love having book lovers in my class.

On the first day or so we talked about what being a book lover means.
We practiced being book lovers and I gave students a heart stamp if they were being book lovers.

SO fun!

We created an official club, including signing up, making official cards, and a members only club sign to hang by our classroom door.

and drew about it in our reading notebooks

My students recruited our principal, Mr. Weber, to join the club.

Then processed his membership card :) and wrote him a thank you letter.

They were ECSTATIC when they spotted our letter to him hanging in his office during morning video announcements.
So funny!
^^^^^

This week I will give my students book lover book marks and teach them about the parts of a book.
We will draw and label the parts in our
Reading Notebooks

Book Lovers Rock! :)

Fun Sight Word Review!

My students had SO MUCH FUN creating this sight word review. I gave each student (or pair of students) a sight word that we have learned. They could "make it fancy" with any designs they wanted...
but the BEST part was their creative poses!!

I created a slideshow for them to practice reading their words. I also plan on printing these off and adding them to our Daily 5 sight word work bins.

They are SUPER excited about this and have already been asking to create number and color words posters!
: )

Kindergarten Friends,

I LOVE all of your star word posters!!!
Play the slideshow and see if you can read all of these words to your family.

READ!!

Today the children brought in their favorite Dr. Seuss books to share with their friends.

They loved relaxing and reading with their partners this afternoon.

We also brainstormed all of the places that readers like to read:

Then drew them:

We discussed the topics that we like to read about the most and then made these:

The children like to read about dogs, cats, astronauts, football, princesses, and many students just couldn't choose 1 topic so they wrote: Read everything!

They are practicing part 1 of The Daily Five: Read to Self.

I love listening in to the children as they “shop” for books, comment on the pictures, read the words, retell the story, check the end papers, make connections, find star words, laugh out loud, and so much more.

Way to go, friends! I am so proud of each and every one of you!
