Funny Jack-O-Lanterns!

We made these silly jack-o-lantern faces today.
It was SO much fun!

I just love how different they all look and my students had a blast making them!

Writing Celebration!

At the end of each writing unit I have a little celebration for my Growing Writers.
It is so wonderful to look through our pieces and see the growth we've made!
Sometimes the celebrations are as simple as sharing writing with peers in the building and enjoying a special snack. Other times we invite parents to join in the celebration.

Here are some highlights from our Drawing Unit Celebration:
LOVE THESE face strips. The students tried to show a different person and/or emotion in each one.

Our writing portfolios ready to share with our guests.

Writing Celebration welcome and party plan. :)
We decorated the tables with special drawings and made silly hot dogs (just like Pigeon)!

Parents,
THANK YOU for helping make this celebration so much fun. The students were so excited to share their hard work.
I am so glad that I get to spend the year with these fantastic growing writers!

Studying Mo Willems' Craft

My Growing Writers inspire me daily!

We learned how to be craft detectives - paying careful attention to the choices that authors and illustrators make that help make their writing and illustrations so special.

Here is an anchor chart we created while spotting Mo Willem's choices.

It makes me SO HAPPY and PROUD that my young students are spotting (and using in their own writing) motion, bold words, speech and thought bubbles, and onomatopoeia!
