Punctuation Hunt

In Reader's Workshop the students learned about the parts of a sentence.

As a group we used big books to find capitals, sight words, spaces, and punctuation.

Then I sent the students off on a punctuation hunt.
Before they could add it to our punctuation board they had to tell me the correct name... and when it was used.

They loved this lesson and I am thrilled that they are already using "official" reading and writing terms. : )

Toot Your Flute Day!

Did you know today is National Toot Your Flute Day?
: )

I am SO thankful that Nate's mom shared this with me:

"October 4th, International Toot Your Flute Day, was intended as a day for shameless self-promotion. No need for modesty, tell everyone how great you are. Celebrate your strong points and take credit for the great things you do. Self-promotion doesn't have to be "bragging."

The students and I had a great conversation about celebrating your strengths vs. bragging...
and then we got to tooting our own horns a little. : )

I asked the students to share something that they are really great at doing:
