LOST Snowmen

The students L-O-V-E-D this fun activity we did on Friday...

They created snowmen or snowgirls  with oil pastels and construction paper crayons. We practiced describing our snow people to our friends. It was great practice for describing an object's size, color, and shape.

Then... mysteriously... our snowmen were LOST!

The students had to write a description of their snowmen so that others could help find them. They enjoyed doing this and and I was reeeeeeeally excited about their details and neat lowercase writing. woohoo! :)

On Monday we'll read through all of the clues and see if we can locate all of the missing snowmen.

Idea inspired by the first grade students HERE.

Life in a Snow Globe

My class just LOVED this book:
The Snow Globe Family

It's an adorable winter story about two families who love the snow- one family just happens to live in a snow globe. The children were really fascinated by this tale.

Students enjoyed checking out snow globes in Google images and sharing information about their own snow globes.

We had a great discussion about the fun things we could do inside of a snow globe. We added the students' ideas to our HUGE snow globe.
SO CREATIVE!! (use electric blankets and sleep outside, go snow boarding, etc..)
Click on the picture to zoom in.

Then we made a class book by writing about what we would do if we lived in a snow globe.

Finally, we made these:

SNOW!

It was such a delight to watch my kindergarten friends play outside during our first official snowfall today. The mulch on the playground was just covered a bit- but they all danced, ran, and laughed with the greatest excitement as the snow fell. It was a joy to watch!
