Presidents

The children really enjoyed learning more about Washington, Lincoln, and Obama this week. We also learned about the White House.

They have become true experts on the Presidents.
Parents: Please ask your child to share some facts with you!

Here are a few of the projects we worked on this week:

The children loved checking out log cabins using Google Images:

We also made a delicious snack. Click below to check out the recipe.

Valentine Exchange with Texas Friends

VALENTINE EXCHANGE

We are super excited about a special Valentine’s Day project that we have been working on.
Thanks to help from April at Chalk Talk we are exchanging Valentines with another kindergarten class ..... from Grand Prairie, Texas!
My class is beyond excited about their new pen pals from Mrs. Ray's class. We located their city and state on our large classroom map and then used Google Earth to zoom into their school and neighborhood. Pretty amazing!
The children made adorable LOVE BUG valentines for their "Texas friends". (Thanks to my amazing friend Jonelle @ A Place Called Kindergarten for this cute idea!)

We are also sending them a cool book about Cincinnati, Ohio so they can learn more about where we live and compare it to their own town.
And what is Valentine's Day without sweethearts?

My students are anxious to receive their Valentines from Mrs. Ray’s class. They are all super excited about the opportunity to see and chat with their new friends via Skype next week.

To: Mrs. Ray's Class
"We hope you like your Valentines, treats, and book.
We can't wait to Skype with you next week!
P.S. Do you have Skyline Chili in Texas?"

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Last week the students learned about Martin Luther King, Jr.

We had a wonderful discussion about Martin's dream. It was so great to listen to the children as they shared thoughtful reflections about how they could carry Mr. King's dream on.

Check out their adorable MLK portraits:

Scrapbook Santas, Mrs. Claus, and Elves, Oh My!

One of my favorite bloggers, from First Grade Parade, posted her students' Scrapbook Santas last week. They are adorable!

I couldn't wait for my kindergarten friends to make these because I knew how much they enjoyed creating their Scrapbook Turkeys and I loved how unique each one turned out. I knew this activity would allow my students to be creative. Sure enough as I showed them the idea for Scrapbook Santas they immediately asked if they could make Mrs. Claus and/or the Elves too.

I love all of their creative ideas and I love my Growing Artists!
